Emlon (Amlodipine) is a calcium channel blocker used to effectively manage high blood pressure (hypertension) and angina (chest pain caused by heart disease). It works by relaxing blood vessels, improving blood flow, and reducing the heart’s workload — helping to prevent heart attacks and strokes.
You can take Emlon with or without food, ideally at the same time each day, as advised by your doctor. Continue taking it even if you feel well, since hypertension often has no symptoms.
Common side effects: fatigue, ankle swelling, dizziness, headache, flushing, nausea, and palpitations.
Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have heart, liver, or kidney issues, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid sudden posture changes to prevent dizziness.
Adults: Usually 5 mg once daily; may increase to 10 mg if needed.
Elderly or hepatic impairment: Start with 2.5 mg daily.
Children (<6 years): Safety not established.
Use caution with CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir) and simvastatin, as they may increase the risk of side effects.
Pregnancy Category C. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of Amlodipine in pregnant women. Amlodipine should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is not known whether Amlodipine is excreted in human milk. In the absence of this information, it is recommended that nursing be discontinued while Amlodipine is administered.
Precautions should be taken in patients with hepatic impairment and during pregnancy, and breastfeeding.
Keep all medicines out of reach of children. Store in a cool & dry place, protected from light.
